At our first session of this year’s Family Inventors’ Lab, we talked about the process of inventing and engineering: seeing a problem, brainstorming ideas for how to fix it, building a prototype, testing it, then fixing it or tweaking it till we have the best possible solution for the problem. Later in class, one of our four year olds was working independently at the drawing table. This is what she wrote:
This sign delights me, because it typifies what attitude I hope to build in my students: an empowered sense of competency, and a view that if we work together, we can solve all sorts of problems.
